The Betty Blue Jean Media Group™ a virtual artistic experience, publishing diverse artistic online-print media.
African-American owned, BBJ was formerly named MOSHEFLOW PRODUCTIONS in 2003, established in Dallas/Fort-Worth, Texas. The publishing-creative company began hosting open-mic poetry nights weekly at The Arlington Museum of Art in Arlington, Texas. After Hours was the first open-mic hosted at the AMA by an African-American female (the founder of BBJ). Critically acclaimed by local media and participants, the open-mic was solicited by Russell Simmons Def Poetry to aid in bringing poets together for casting on the popular show.
The company flourished thereafter, organizing literary forums-workshops at Linda's Art 4 You, Brooklyn's, and The South Dallas Cultural Center. BBJ provided writing-managerial-consulting services for The Dallas Weekly, Rolling Out Urban Style Weekly, Kevin Powell's: The State of The Black Man Tour, and local elementary and secondary schools.
The Betty Blue Jean Media Group™ then created Literafeelya Magazine, "a literal source of n'ergy by way of ink!" Twenty online issues were produced with a dynamic group of writers and artists.
Now based in Houston, Texas, The Betty Blue Jean Media Group™ continues to reach out to the community, publishing an African-American collegiate newspaper, Songhai News, hosting the first Independent Black Film Festival-PopCorn N Lemonade Films at The University of Houston, and receiving several publishing grants from Young People For and Campus Progress in 2007-2008.
kYmberly Keeton, Founder/Publisher of The Betty Blue Jean Media Group™ discovered through research a void to fill for women and the African-American community regarding grassroots organization, culture, politics, and the arts from a local and international perspective through media and magazine publishing.
Born and raised in Texas, the founder believes that it is important to make sure that the history of others are documented along with their accomplishments in the South and beyond.
"Everyone should be held accountable for giving back to their community, and making sure that the next generation has a legacy to carry. All the people that I have met in the United States and abroad have a story," the thirty-two year old entrepreneur and avid writer says.
The future looks bright for The Betty Blue Jean Media Group™. The company is in the works of creating an online women's group, a book club, and the relaunch of Literafeelya Magazine slated for 2012.
